The Physical Therapist Assistant coursework began the fall of 2008 (see important notice). The program is expected to help meet government projections for increased demand for physical therapist assistants in Mohave County over the next 10 years.
The U.S. Dept. of Labor expects a 29 percent increase in physical therapist assistants between 2006 and 2016 as quoted by MCC President Michael Kearns. Mohave Community College's program will educate students who will work under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
Graduates can expect to provide care to patients suffering from injury or disease that results in a loss of motion within a joint, pain, wounds, abnormal walking patterns and general debility.
Associate of Applied Science - Prerequisites are only to score an appropriate assessment placement in English 101 and Math 121, or successful completion of Transitional Math and Transitional English. Applications for the PTA program are accepted every spring for admission the following Fall semester. See course listing link on the right for full course schedule. Students will participate in lab and lecture/classroom activities and clinics where they deal directly with patients. The lab activities incorporate principles learned in the classroom lecture. There is a total of 69 credits to fulfill the requirements of an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.

Physical therapist assistant class well represented July 8, 2009 - The physical therapist assistant class of 2010 on Mohave Community College’s Lake Havasu City campus was visited by physical therapist Kay Wing, seated left, chapter president of the Arizona Physical Therapy Association (AzPTA), after the class recently completed its first clinical education experience. Wing’s visit was prompted by the class’s high rate of membership in the AzPTA. She told the class that state student membership averages about 25 percent in PT and PTA programs while the MCC class membership rate is 95 percent. Wing stated, “Your faculty has been effective in role modeling the benefits of membership.” Physical therapist Rhonda Schnabl, middle row far right, director of the MCC program, was appreciative of Wing’s visit and said, “Our hope now is that the Class of 2010 can role model the benefits of membership to the Class of 2011.” The AzPTA is a component of the American Physical Therapy Association.
