Eight shaved heads at NCK benefit kids with cancer - May 13, 2009
Kelly Beck, seated left, a clerk in the library on Mohave Community College’s Neal Campus-Kingman, is all smiles as Deane Parson, right, of Killer Kutts Hair Salon in Kingman puts finishing touches on shaving Beck’s hair on Tuesday. Beck is one of eight persons who had their heads shaved for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer organization that collects hair and turns it into wigs for children with cancer. More than $300 was raised for childhood cancer research and, for two more weeks, people can make donations, co-organizer Mark Kucharek said. Checks made out to St. Baldrick’s Foundation can either be given to Kucharek or Barbara Freitas on the Neal Campus-Kingman or donations can be made online at http://www.stbaldricks.org/, listing the site as Mohave Community College Kingman Campus. The Alpha Chi Omega chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, sponsored the event.
