Dental Assisting Program Highlights

  • Locations
    • Bullhead City Campus - On-ground portion
    • Angel - Online portion
    • Dental Clinic HCB - Clinical Experience
    • Private Dental Offices - Clinical Experience
  • Cost - Some courses in the dental assisting program have lab fees associated with them. The total fees in the certificate are $1215.00. The fees cover uniforms, instruments, clinical and lab supplies, personal protective equipment and typodonts. The fee for Dental Assisting Radiology, DAE 106, also includes dental assisting radiology certification exam fees. Medical exams, vaccinations and textbooks are not included.
    • The fall semester has a fee associated with the following courses:
      • DAE 100 ($150), DAE 105 ($150), DAE 106 ($490) and DAE 110 ($150).
    • The spring semester fees are:
      • DAE 102 ($175) and DAE 120 ($200).
  • Degree - Certificate in Dental Assisting
  • Program length - 2 semesters, 27-29 credit hours
  • Times - Day/evening on-ground and clinical classes at MCC and in private dental offices
  • Class size - Cohort of 18.  Students must earn grades of “C” or higher in all courses to continue in the program.
  • Prerequisites - None
  • Minimum requirements
    • American Heart Association HealthCare Provider CPR certification
    • Hepatitis B and MMR vaccinations, Varicella (Chickenpox) and Tuberculosis Test - (See Program Immunization & Health Declaration Form) 
    • Computer access
    • Students must show college-level abilities on the assessment test by either placing into ENG 101 and TRM 091 or by passing PCS 021, TRE 089 and TRM 090.

Dental Assisting Classroom

  • Career advancement - Graduates of the Dental Assisting Program may choose to further their dental careers by applying to the MCC Dental Hygiene Program.  Before applying to the Dental Hygiene Program, all Dental Hygiene prerequisites must be completed.  None of the Dental Assisting coursework will transfer to the Dental Hygiene Program.
  • Employment opportunities - Graduates will have several employment options after graduation, including private dental offices, public health agencies, dental industry sales, and education.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in February 2004, Dental Assisting is to be one of the fastest growing occupations 2002-2012, projecting the need to be a 42% increase over present levels.
  • Salary Ranges - The state of Arizona labor statistics indicate a median salary of $15.85 per hour for an experienced dental assistant. There are currently 5,390 dental assistants working in the state.  Back to TopBack to top
