Using MS Office 2003 to Read MS Office 2007 Materials
If you are using Microsoft Office 2003 you will not be able to read documents saved in MS Office 2007 format (unless the person used the procedure for saving the documents in an earlier version as described above). There is a converter which you can download and install that will allow you to read Office 2007 with Office 2003. Copy the following link information into your browser window:
NOTE:
Users of the Microsoft Office XP and 2003 programs Word, Excel, or PowerPoint—please install all High-Priority updates from Microsoft Update before downloading the Compatibility Pack.
By installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats. For more information about the Compatibility Pack, see Knowledge Base article 924074.
Note: If you use Microsoft Word 2000 or Microsoft Word 2002 to read or write documents containing complex scripts, please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925451 for information to enable Word 2007 documents to be displayed correctly in your version of Word.
Using MS Office 2007 to Submit Materials
* If you are a student taking a CIS course, please check with your instructor before saving your documents as Office 2003 documents. *
If you are using Microsoft Office 2007, many individuals with earlier versions of MS Office will not be able to read the new MS Office 2007 format. You can correct this by selecting a default for saving MS Office 2007 documents in an earlier version of MS Office. The steps below will set your preferences so that the default save file will be in a earlier version.
1. Log into MS Word, Excel or Power Point, and perform the following for each one.
2. On the Home page at the top left hand corner click on the save as icon.
3. Select Save as type: and select Word (or Excel or Power Point) 97-2003 Document.
4. Name the file.
5. Click Save.
