Mohave Community College is expanding the college Welding program to the Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City campuses.

The college is getting the facilities prepared and will soon be signing students up for Fall Semester classes on those campuses.

“Welding is one of the most popular of the Career and Technical Education programs the college offers,” said James Jarman, MCC spokesman.  “We have people come here from other states just to get trained and certified here.”Welding Student welding in class

To meet the growing demand and offer more convenience and flexibility for students the college is opening Welding Skill Centers on the Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City campuses.

These will be smaller versions of the Kingman campus facility, where students will get the same professional training.

“A key aspect of our welding certificates that makes them so popular is that they come with an industry qualification from the American Welding Society,” said Jason Gee, MCC associate dean of instruction, who manages the college Career & Technical Education programs.

“When you go out to apply for a welding job, you can prove you are AWS qualified because our certificates are aligned with AWS, it’s built right into our program and testing,” said Gee.

MCC offers several welding certificates, from entry level to those that require higher skill levels.

The average salary for welders in America is $40,240, and there is an expected need of 22,500 more welders in American by 2026, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.
