The public is invited to Mohave Community College to join Howard Seftel, former restaurant critic for the Arizona Republic and Phoenix New Times, as he explores the many ways that dining out reflects our evolving culture and helps shape it.

For years, Arizonans enjoyed Seftel’s witty no-holds-barred columns on dining out. Come to MCC on February 6, and hear him explain the rise of independent chefs, the boom in ethnic eating, the push for local sourcing and the growth of Arizona wines.
When the first dining guide to the Valley of the Sun appeared in 1978, the authors had to explain “sushi” to people. Fast forward four decades, and Arizonans are munching rainbow rolls in shopping-mall food courts. The restaurant business in Arizona now brings in more than $11 billion a year.
Seftel’s presentation, You Are Where You Eat: How dining out defines Arizona, will also feature a rare inside look at the development of food criticism and the internet’s impact.
MCC Student Activities Council will provide snacks at the event.
