MCC to relax some campus restrictions as local virus numbers improve

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave Community College Board of Governors was updated today on the college plan to enact the next phase of its campus reopening.

The Pandemic Phase 2 plan calls for Student Services Department front desk staff to return to each of the college’s four campuses on October 19.  This coincides with the opening of the registration window for spring semester classes.

“On October 19 you’ll be able to come to a campus near you, meet with our team in-person and get information and assistance signing up for spring semester classes,” said MCC President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein.  “Since the virus is still active in the region, we’re also keeping our virtual communication lines fully staffed for people who are more comfortable calling, emailing, or chatting with us through the college website.”

Up until now, only a limited number of students and employees have been allowed on the campuses.  All of them are following federal, state and local health guidelines such as face coverings, social distancing and cleaning protocols.  Most fall semester classes are being held in remote and online formats, and most employees have been telecommuting.

The college hopes to move to Phase 3 of its Pandemic Plan for spring semester, and bring most courses back to classrooms on the Bullhead City, Havasu, Kingman and Colorado City campuses.  All health safety measures recommended by the CDC will be required for those attending on campus classes.

“Currently our instructors are planning for their courses to be on campus, but if the situation with the virus gets worse they have the ability to quickly transition to remote classes, or a hybrid of remote and on campus teaching modalities,” said Dr. Klippenstein.

Spring semester starts January 19.  People wanting to take classes at the college can start by filling out the free online application at Apply.Mohave.edu.
