2 MCC Kingman students named All Arizona Academic Team members

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College would like to congratulate Lucy Nelson and Crystal Covault, who have been named 2022 All Arizona Academic Team Members. Nelson and Covault are both students on the Neal Campus-Kingman.

All Arizona Academic Team members receive a full tuition scholarship to any public university in Arizona after they graduate MCC. The scholarship covers resident tuition for 10 consecutive undergraduate semesters or 60 credits for the fall and spring semesters.

Nelson is a nursing student at MCC. After completing her degree at MCC, she will attend Northern Arizona University to work toward earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

“I was completely caught off guard by this award it seemed too good to be true I’m thankful and grateful, and honored to represent MCC in this way,” Nelson said.

Her career goals include to work as an operating room nurse. She would like to expand her trauma skills and volunteer abroad.

She decided to join the program because students at the time encouraged her to join. Nelson said the aspects that were especially appealing included affordable tuition, small class sizes and no waiting list.

Nelson was born in Wisconsin and moved around a lot growing up. She was homeschooled and started taking college classes at 15 years old. She has her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Dakota.

She moved to Kingman in 2018 at a healthcare traveler for Kingman Regional Medical Center. On her free time, she enjoys learning new skills and has been trying to learn French. She hopes to start taking Irish step dancing lessons.

Covault, the second student selected in Kingman for the All Arizona Academic Team, is majoring in Education. After completing her degree at MCC she plans to attend Arizona State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education with a minor in reading literacy.

“I’m extremely humbled and honored to receive this scholarship I’m grateful for the opportunity to use this scholarship to help me finish my degree and start my career,” she said.

After graduating from ASU she hopes to continue her education and earn her master’s degree. Her career goal is to become an elementary school teacher.

Covault grew up in California and moved to Kingman, shortly after marrying her husband, where they have lived for 22 years. On her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and grandchildren.
