Junior high school student wins Flash Film Festival $500 grand prize

BULLHEAD CITY — A junior high school student who created a short action film called Lego Royale 7 won the $500 grand prize at the Mohave Community College Bullhead City Student Arts Club’s 3rd Annual Flash Film Festival.

For the festival McCune, a Fox Creek Junior High 7th grade student, submitted a one minute video that features a 007 Lego character on a mission to steal Russian nuclear missile codes and prevent worldwide nuclear destruction.   

The Flash Film Festival was created by the Arts Club last year to bring local video and filmmakers together, spark more interest in the craft and highlight video and filmmaking in northwestern Arizona.

The winners of the festival categories are listed below, along with links to their winning flash films. First place finishers received $50, second place received $25.

Best Action & Grand Prize Winner

Best Horror:

1st place – Carapace Version 1.0 by Adam Romano, Ashleigh Romano, and Zariah Galvez
2nd place – Spirit Mountain of the Unfortunates by Vanessa Martinez

Best Documentary:

1st place – Hippy Dippy Airstream by Timothy W. Webb
2nd place – Why Pickleball? by Erin Roper

Best Comedy/Musical:

1st place – Death of an Obscure Painter by Joe Ketchum
2nd place – Yorky Peppery Patty by Samantha Burkes

Charlie McCune, 12, won the $500 grand prize and an MCC Bighorn trophy for his action video he entered in the 3rd annual MCC Flash Film Festival.
