MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College Lake Havasu Campus student, Jasmine Garcia, has been selected as a Phi Theta Kappa Honor (PTK) Society International Officer. She’s the Vice President for Division IV, which is one of the highest leadership positions a student can achieve in the organization. She is the first ever from northwestern Arizona to have earned a position at this level.
Garcia’s responsibilities include being an ambassador, presiding at the PTK regional institute and annual conference, give speeches and provide workshops at regional conferences, write articles, participate in local chapter activities and share her story.
“I feel extremely honored and grateful to be the first PTK member in MCC history to be on International Office,” she said. “I hope I can inspire others from my college and other colleges to shoot for the stars and take risks even if they come from an inactive chapter.”
At MCC, she is part of the PTK Alpha Chi Chi chapter as treasurer, Student Activities Council President and Arts Club Vice President. For 2023-2024, she will be PTK president on the Lake Havasu Campus. She’s working toward earning her associate’s degree in mathematics. After MCC, she plans to continue her education at Arizona State University.
When she looked into the position she realized decided it would benefit her greatly as a student leader. Holding the title of an International PTK Officer, she will help her local chapter through initiatives such as college projects, Honors in Action projects, PTK Connect and more.
Her PTK advisors, Pamela Galovich and Bhaskar Singh, helped her throughout the process. Campus administration also helped her practice speeches and stay calm during the process.
She will hold the position for the 2023-2024 school year. She ran against four other students from California and Washington. Garcia was presented with her new role during PTK’s annual conference in Columbus, Ohio.
