MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College’s Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City campuses are gearing up to host exciting community events called Bighorn Trek, showcasing higher education and career opportunities in each community. The events will also feature a Show ‘n Shine Car Show hosted by the college’s Automotive programs.

The Bullhead City campus event will take place from 9 AM to 2 PM on Thursday, March 28, alongside an ARIZONA@WORK hiring event, and the car show. Lake Havasu City’s event will follow a week later on Friday, April 5, from 7 AM to 4 PM, also featuring the car show. The ARIZONA@WORK hiring event on the Havasu campus will run from 1 PM to 3 PM.

“This is an opportunity for members of our community to visit and learn more about their community college. Picture it as an all-day college open house,” said Dr. Maria Ayon, Dean of Student and Community Engagement-Lake Havasu. “Bring your mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, brother, sister, cousin and anyone who wants to learn more about what we have to offer.”

In Lake Havasu, the college is partnering with Arizona Youth Partnership and Not My Kid to sponsor parent workshops in Spanish and English focused on teen mental health, starting at 7 AM.

Bighorn Trek helps bring together community members, students, and business leaders to improve lives and communities.

“Bighorn Trek is one of our largest events here on the Bullhead City Campus. Focusing on the tristate workforce, we want to continue to promote our expanding career paths and our regional four-year university transfer partnerships,” said Gary Cooper, Dean of Student and Community Engagement for the Bullhead City campus. “This workforce event not only allows us to roll out the MCC red carpet, but it connects people of all ages with opportunities we have here and throughout the community.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with college instructors and local businesses to learn about the skills needed for success. The hiring events feature current openings in the area.

Additionally, the Bighorn Trek Show ‘n Shine Car Show on both campuses allows car enthusiasts to showcase their hot rods. Registration is $20 per car, with awards given in categories such as best engine, best paint, students’ choice, and best of show. For more information about the car shows, contact Auto Collision Instructor Richie Mitten at RMitten@mohave.edu.
