MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College (Mohave College beginning August 2025) would like to announce Abigail Jaimes-Gomez as the Executive Director of Title V Grant. In September 2024, the College received a federal grant that will support its pathways to success for Hispanic and low-income students. Jaimes-Gomez has been with the College as a student, faculty and staff member, ultimately providing her a well-rounded understanding of the impact and potential the College has in the community.
“The College is excited to have Abigail oversee our Title V Grant and lead our efforts to provide new initiatives, programs and services aimed at improving the educational outcomes of our Hispanic and low-income students, while at the same time raising the educational attainment of all students,” said Dr. Stacy Klippenstein, College President. “The work she and others will do will benefit every student at the College and improve our understanding of the needs of all students, especially our Hispanic students, our fastest growing population.”
Jaimes-Gomez has been a member of the Bullhead City community for nearly 30 years. She discovered her passion for education and community service while studying at Mohave Community College, where she earned her Associate of Arts in Education. She then continued her studies at Northern Arizona University, completing both her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in educational leadership, which has prepared her to take on this new position.
“Taking on this role is both an honor and a personal calling as a first-generation Latina (first in her family to attend college). I’m committed to serving our diverse student body, ensuring our Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) designation reflects our promise to empower Hispanic students and all learners,” Jaimes-Gomez said. “I’m passionate about creating spaces where every student feels represented, finds pathways to their goals, and feels like they belong because this work is about transforming lives and strengthening our community for generations.”
As Jaimes-Gomez starts her new position she plans to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to enhance faculty development, strengthen academic support programs, acquire necessary equipment and create initiatives that support student success. The work being done will enhance programs and expand educational opportunities. Benefits will not only impact students but the communities the College serves.
Jaimes-Gomez said, as students succeed and achieve their goals, they foster a more educated and empowered community, creating a cycle of prosperity and well-being, which will bring lasting change for both current and future generations.
Her story demonstrates that with supportive educational pathways, local talent can develop into leadership that gives back to the community that nurtured them.
Those wanting to start their educational journey at MCC can enroll now by visiting Mohave.edu/admissions. Enrollment for the summer semester is open and begins June 2. For those wanting to wait until the fall semester, enrollment is now open with the semester tentatively starting Aug. 18.
